Lewis Alexander — The Teesside Photographer

Photography · and everything here built from scratch: vanilla HTML/CSS/JS, Python, PHP.

Some pieces here are built for a desktop screen — the anti-portfolio, the Ipcress scene, the animation builder, the priory. That is a choice rather than an oversight: they depend on scale and timing a phone cannot hold, so they are not optimised for mobile and will not be. They run on a phone; they are not the same thing.

Photography

The work everything else hangs off — Teesside, its edges and its industry.

Animation builder

Place the landmarks yourself, then watch Teesside draw itself in — the animation from TTP’s landing page, opened up so anyone can build it.

The completed animation: Teesside landmarks drawn in line — Transporter Bridge, cooling towers, Roseberry Topping, the seal, Whitby Abbey

Anti-portfolio

A portfolio that takes itself apart — the photograph pulled through its own controls, live in the browser.

Guisborough

The priory rebuilt in the browser — the east end captured in 3D from photographs, with the glass, the altar and a candlelit procession put back inside it. Explore it yourself, or let the procession play.

The opening screen of the piece: a line drawing of the priory's east end beside the title, The Priory

Built for a desktop screen — heavy 3D, give it a moment to load.

The backend

The admin behind the site: doormen, publishing flow, the parts a visitor never sees.

Middlesbrough Iron

A colour grade built from the ironstone under the town, written as a 3D LUT.
